Pawnee National Grasslands

With 193,060 acres of short grass prairie, Pawnee National Grasslands play an important role in the preservation and conservation of many bird, animal and plant species. Take a deep breath as we’ll probably have the whole place to ourselves. We can design the perfect tour from your list of targets or a great general tour to see as many species as possible. Individual, small group, senior, women only, wildlife viewing and photography tours are all available from She Flew Birding Tours. We want to make your day in Pawnee National Grasslands the highlight of your trip! Here is a map of Pawnee National Grasslands.

Additional Information

Difficulty

Depending on our destinations, we may do some walking on moderately smooth trails and out on the prairie. Our total hiking distance will depend on the specific birds you’d like to see and your activity level.  Many birds can be found right along the roads or a short distance away from the car.

Considerations

Temperatures on the prairie will oscillate between 50-90 degrees. With not much shade, the sun will be direct at 4,900 feet above sea level. Bring a hat, sun protection including plenty of water for the tour. We average only five rainy days each month so lots of sun is expected. Light hikers or sneakers are fine for short jaunts on the prairie.
