Sue Riffe
Sue is the owner and guide of She Flew Birding Tours, a Colorado based bird watching tour company. Sue has been birding for more than 30 years and has led tours to most of the major hotspots around the U.S including Ecuador and Costa Rica. She spent 20+ years as a band director and professional musician, which gives her a unique understanding of bird songs and how to teach them to others. With nearly 2,000 bird sound files uploaded to Xeno-Canto and Macaulay Libraries, her work encompasses six countries and has been featured in documentaries, small movies and presentations. She has given back to the birding community by serving on the boards of Babson Park Audubon in Florida, Fort Collins Audubon in Colorado, and most recently, the field trip chair for Colorado Field Ornithologist. A goal she has is to participate in every Christmas Bird Counts in Colorado. Forty-eight down and only five to go. Finally, her tours are welcoming to all ages, genders, abilities, and preferences. She can’t wait to take you on your next birding adventure!
Kathy Kay
Kathy has lived in Colorado for over 20 years and has been birding for nearly 30 years. While her home base is in Denver, she birds throughout the state. Early on, she raised her daughter and spent extensive time birding in the mountains around Genesee and South Florida. Kathy has maintained a spot in the top 100 nationally on eBird for the last several years as she has birded all over the United States. Kathy is known to be friendly and welcoming to all birders on her tours.
Who We Are
Founded in 2012, She Flew Birding Tours is a women owned and operated birding and wildlife tour company based in Colorado. Sue Riffe is the owner and lead guide and oversees all aspects of the business. We follow the ABA code of ethics, responsible travel guidelines and strive to eat local foods, hire local guides, and stay at eco-lodges where available. We support the smaller companies to bring valuable resources to support eco-tourism and awareness to the local community. Our specialty is guiding small group and individual tours in many states and several countries including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Maine, Minesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming. We also have tours in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Colombia. We believe that each bird should be enjoyed before dashing off to the next while still taking full advantage of a full day’s birding. Plan on an inclusive atmosphere that fosters a comradery and team approach. As always, all birding levels are welcomed unless otherwise listed on the itinerary. Finally, our tours are less expensive than many other birding tour companies. We would rather share our love of birding with you.
